Mocreo temperature sensor review 2024: Keeps Zepbound, Mounjaro and Wegovy safe

I’m a member of several GLP-1 online support groups and I’ve heard horror stories from people who have lost their supply of Zepbound, Mounjaro, or Wegovy. Why? The medication got too warm because the fridge was accidentally left open or a power outage occurred.

This isn’t a big deal if you only have a few pens in the fridge. Remember, even once the pens are at room temperature, they are still good for up to 21 days.

However, if you fill a three-month supply at a time, you could have 12 or more pens in your fridge. I take Zepbound, so 12 pens cost $3,180 at retail or $1,650 if you use Eli Lilly’s savings card. That’s too much money to risk.

I protect my refrigerator with a Mocreo ST5 wireless temperature alarm. It was fairly priced, easy to install, and it alerts me if the fridge temperature exceeds my set point. This gives me so much peace of mind!

It’s not just about the money at stake. Zepbound and Mounjaro are super difficult to get right now as they are on the Food and Drug Administration’s official drug shortage list. It’s hard enough to get my medicine. I would be devastated if any of it was wasted due to a fridge malfunction.

A temperature sensor is your insurance if you stockpile any GLP-1 medication that needs refrigeration. (PS: I wish I could get a three-month supply of this liquid gold! But due to the shortage, my pharmacy will only dole out one box at a time. I envy those of you who are getting three boxes at a time!)

Mocreo ST5 wireless temperature sensor summary

If you can’t afford to lose even one injection pen, invest in a wireless temperature sensor for your refrigerator. The sensor will alert you if the temperature rises above your set point via an audible alert from the hub, an in-app push notification, or an email. This will give you time to relocate your medication to a cooler place.

Here are some of the Mocreo ST5’s features:

Threshold setting

Set max/min temperature for customized alerts.

Thin, flat cable

An ultra-thin and flat probe cable ensures a tight seal of the refrigerator door.

3 alert types

The Mocreo beeps an alert, emails you, and sends an in-app push notification.

Temperature range

Monitors temperatures from -40 to 257 degrees F.

Long battery life

1800mAh lithium battery lasts up to 2 years.

Whole-house monitoring

Connect up to 30 Mocreo sensors to one hub.

My experience with Mocreo ST5 temperature sensor

My household has used Mocreo temperature sensors for a few years. We live in a hurricane zone and that means power failures. We originally purchased temperature sensors for our chest freezers to easily monitor the temperature inside without opening the lid. We shop at Costco, an hour’s drive in each direction, so that’s why we have so much in the freezers! If we lost that food, it would hurt our pocketbook.

Living in Northeast Florida, we also experience power brownouts. It’s important to know when that happens so we can monitor whether the fridge and freezers took a hit.

Finally, we love to travel and needed a way to know if there was a power outage that would have warmed the contents of the fridge/freezers to the point that we’d need to throw things away when we got home.

Want a low-tech way to monitor your freezer? Freeze a small paper cup of water and put a penny on the top. If you ever open the freezer and the penny is at the bottom of the cup, you know something went wrong!

I picked up another temperature sensor for the fridge when I started taking Zepbound. Better safe than sorry.

What does the Mocreo ST5 temperature sensor do?

The Mocreo ST5 sensor, probe, and hub will monitor the temperature of your refrigerator. It will alert you if the temperature rises above your preferred set point.

Here’s what’s in the box. (Note: I bought a pack with two sensors/probes and one hub.)

How do you set up the Mocreo sensor?

First, plug the hub into an outlet near your fridge.

Then, place the wireless sensor outside your fridge. I hid mine under the cabinet that’s directly above my fridge.

Once your sensor base station is in place, plug in the probe and thread the attached flat cord through the refrigerator door.

The cord is super flat. It doesn’t interfere when you open and close the fridge door.

The probe lives inside your refrigerator and reports temperature fluctuations to the sensor, hub, and app.

I tucked the temperature probe next to where I keep the butter. (I taped the probe down so it wouldn’t move around or fall out.)

The app then shows real-time information about the temperature in your fridge. It will notify you when the temperature is above your preferred set point.

Who is Mocreo ST5 temperature sensor for?

A temperature sensor is ideal for anyone who keeps expensive, temperature-sensitive items in their refrigerator or freezer.

Mocreo ST5 temperature sensor pricing – How much does it cost?

Mocreo sensors work with a hub. When you first purchase this product, buy a package with BOTH the hub and a sensor. You can add several sensors to one hub. If you decide to use this product on a few fridges or freezers, you can monitor them all from the same app. A package with two sensors and a hub goes for around $50. If you already have the hub and are adding a sensor, you can buy one for about $29.

Frequently asked questions

Before you order a Mocreo ST5 temperature sensor, you may want the answers to these questions.

Yes. This particular product requires Wi-Fi to operate. The sensor communicates with the hub and app using Wi-Fi.

Mocreo says the temperature probe is +/-0.9 degrees Fahrenheit.

Mocreo says the sensor should be no further than 131 feet from the hub and the distance should be unobstructed. (In other words, don’t place the hub on one floor of your house and the sensor on another.)

Conclusion – Is the Mocreo ST5 temperature sensor worth it?

For me, the Mocreo ST5 temperature sensor/hub package is totally worth what I paid (about $50 for a hub and two sensors). It has the potential to save my Zepbound if there’s a long-lasting power failure that requires me to relocate my medication stash.

An added bonus is that the Mocreo protects all the food in my fridge and freezers.
